Lions Beat Blazers to Take Series

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View's baseball team beat Dallas College North Lake 7-4 Saturday at Dallas College Eastfield to win the three-game series.

It was Mountain View's first Dallas Athletic Conference series victory of the season. The Lions went 3-3 against the Blazers for the second straight season, winning a series in each of the last two years.

The Lions (10-38, 3-24 Dallas Athletic Conference) won the first game 7-2 Tuesday before North Lake (22-31, 12-15) prevailed in the second game 4-3 Thursday.

In Game 3, Mountain View scored five runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead. North Lake answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to cut the gap to three, but the Lions didn't let it get any closer.

Angelo Solis (1-1) pitched 4 2/3 innings in relief, allowing four hits, two runs and four walks, and struck out four in the win. Sloane Reves retired the final batter for his second save this season. Both of his saves have come against the Blazers. Micah Bandy pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and three walks, and had one strikeout.

Huston Cornish went 3 for 4 with two RBI for the Lions, who had 12 hits. Greg Willis and Kortes Howard both went 2 for 4. Ismail Hatamleh doubled, and drove in a run. Asher Bates was 1 for 5 with an RBI. Jimmy Bowden, Aidan Flores and Victor Zuniga each had a hit, and Adrien Varela an RBI.

Cornish's three hits matched his career high.

The Lions drew seven walks.

In Tuesday's series opener, Mountain View scored six runs in the bottom of the third to take a five-run lead that held up.

Hatamleh was 3 for 3 with a sacrifice fly, an RBI and a stolen base. Bowden had a home run and a sacrifice fly, while driving in three runs. It was his first homer of the year. Willis was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Asher Bates doubled in one of his three plate appearances. Varela was 1 for 3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Cornish went 1 for 4 with an RBI. Zuniga was 1 for 3.

The Lions had 11 hits.

Ryan Ainsworth (3-4) worked seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and fanned five to earn the win on the mound.

Mountain View will finish the regular season with a three-game series against Dallas College Cedar Valley (25-26, 9-18). The Suns are scheduled to host Wednesday's first game at noon. Mountain View is the home team for Friday and Saturday's Games 2-3.
