Lions Set School Record for Wins
DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View won its 19th game of the season under interim head coach Josh Merrell Wednesday, beating Dallas College Cedar Valley 2-1.
The victory set a school record for wins in a season in the modern era.
Mountain View's two runs in the second held up in a dominant pitching performance by Matthew Reynozo, who went the distance, allowing two hits, three walks and a run, and had seven strikeouts to improve to 4-4.
Dillon Keyes went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a stolen base, and Adrien Varela had a hit, a stolen base and drove in a run for the Lions, who've won two straight one-run games to improve to 19-29, 9-19 in the Dallas Athletic Conference.
Mountain View will be the No. 5 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament at Dallas College Eastfield next week, beginning with Wednesday's 2 p.m. single-elimination round game on the DAC Sports Network.
Cedar Valley's Christian Alcala went five innings, giving up five hits, two runs and no walks, while matching reliever Lyncoln Schaeffer with four strikeouts apiece. Schaeffer pitched three scoreless innings.
Kai Kirchheiner provided the Suns (17-33, 5-23) with their lone run – an RBI single to score Elandis Taylor in the third. Julio Cuotto had Cedar Valley's other hit.
Mountain View's Cooper Scott was 1 for 3 with a walk and two stolen bases. Scooter New had a hit and a stolen base. Micah Gregory doubled in one of his three plate appearances.
The Lions will finish the regular season at home 12 p.m. Friday in Game 2 of the series.
