Mountain View Walks off North Lake to Salvage Final Game of Series

DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View salvaged the final game of its series with Dallas College North Lake Sunday, winning 9-8.

The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning on back-to-back run-scoring singles to center by Adrien Varela and Scooter New to walk off the Blazers.

It snapped a four-game skid for Mountain View (18-29, 8-19 Dallas Athletic Conference). The Lions, who need a win in the final series against Dallas College Cedar Valley (17-32, 5-22) to lock down the No. 5 seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament at Dallas College Eastfield May 13-16, used at least a hit or a run batted in from every spot in the lineup to win.

Asher Bates, Noah Castillo, Varela and New each had two hits for the Lions, who finished with 12. Diego Washington and Castillo both drove in two runs, and the bottom five spots in the lineup each had one RBI.

Jacob Tello got the win in relief, pitching the final inning, allowing just a walk, while striking out one of the four batters he faced.

Mountain View will host the first two games of the series against Cedar Valley Wednesday and Friday before closing the regular season at Lancaster High School.
