Mountain View Takes Game 1 of Brookhaven Series

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View's baseball team took the first game of a series against Dallas College Brookhaven, winning 7-5 Wednesday.

Game 2 is set for noon Friday, with the finale scheduled for 12 p.m. Saturday – both at Mountain View.

The Lions (17-25, 7-15 Dallas Athletic Conference) scored twice in the top of the eighth, and held on after the Bears (18-25, 11-11) picked up three in the bottom of the ninth before closer Santiago Aravena came on to shut the door. Aravena struck out two of the four batters he faced to lock down his second save of the year.

Starter Matthew Reynozo (3-4) went six innings, allowing five hits, two runs and two walks, and fanned a season-high nine batters to pick up the win. He left with a 5-2 lead.

Diego Washington had a solo homer, and Noah Castillo had two of Mountain View's six hits. Micah Gregory and Scooter New each had a hit, and combined to drive in three runs. Adrien Varela's sacrifice fly also scored a run.

Bradley Boedeker had three of Brookhaven's 10 hits, and drove in two runs. Jorge Sanchez and Aidan Corey each had two hits. Nash Nichols was 1 for 5 with an RBI.

Mountain View jumped out to a 3-0 lead in its first at-bat before Brookhaven picked up two of its own in the bottom half of the inning. The Lions extended their lead to three with two runs in the fifth, and then made it 7-2 in the eighth. After the Bears scored three runs with two outs to stay alive, Aravena worked out of trouble to preserve the win.
