Lions Knock off No. 4 North Lake

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Mountain View's baseball team beat No. 4 Dallas College North Lake 12-7 Saturday to secure its first Dallas Athletic Conference series of the season.

The Lions (11-18, 4-8 DAC) beat the Blazers 7-5 in Game 1 earlier in the week. North Lake (17-15, 7-5) won the second game 8-7.

Mountain View third baseman Jessie Hernandez-Carranza went 3 for 3 with two runs batted in and two walks in the series-clinching victory at North Lake. Left fielder Noah Castillo went 3 for 6 with a double, a stolen base and two runs batted in. First baseman Cooper Scott was 2 for 5 with a home run and four RBI. Shortstop Scooter New was 2 for 5 with a double. Pinch hitter Dillon Keyes doubled in a pair of runs, and center fielder Diego Washington had a hit, and drove in two runs.

The Lions outhit the Blazers 13-6.

Mountain View erased a 4-0 North Lake first inning lead when the Lions put up six runs in the second. The Blazers, who used two doubles and an RBI from Cyler Moore and two hits, including a double and a pair of RBI from Ty Diaz, picked up a run in the bottom of the third to cut it to 6-5. The Lions responded with two runs in their next at-bat to re-extend the lead to three.

North Lake scored twice in the sixth to pull within a run again, but Mountain View answered again in the next inning to make it 10-7. The Lions tacked on two more in the ninth, and closer Ryan Ainsworth worked the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and a walk, and struck out two in a scoreless performance to earn the save.

Cameron Cooper (2-0) got the win in middle relief.

Following Mountain View's doubleheader at Nelson University's Junior Varsity Monday, the Lions begin a three-game DAC series at Dallas College Cedar Valley (9-20, 0-12) noon Wednesday. Thursday's home game against the Suns is scheduled to be broadcast on the DAC Sports Network, weather permitting.
